Petrafried is the creation of Arron Daniels and Jay Crook. They have been working on songs together for years. Click on their photos for more information. Both Arron and Jay have close ties to ApologetiX. Arron has played with them in Texas, Indiana, Ohio, Arizona, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. Jay designed the ApologetiX shirt, "Story of a Squirrel," the ApologetiX 1000 concert shirt and helped Karl design the "Enter Samson" shirt. He has also helped code parts of apologetix.com. Jay also created a sortable list of ApologetiX songs that is a must for any ApologetiX fan.

1. How did you get involved with the Petrafried project?
I don't really remember. I think it had to do with Jay and I being ApologetiX fans (that Christian Parody Band). We thought what they did was cool and really enjoyed how the music taught us things about scriptures. From there, we decided to try our hand at the craft. I would have never tried but one day while helping Karl (guitarist for ApologetiX) remodel his upstairs bathroom, he said, "Hey, if someone recorded it, you can too. It just takes practice."
That really sunk in. It was challenging at first. It is challenging now, but a fun thing to do. If you listen to the songs, see if you can guess which songs were the first recorded and the last recorded. Some of the production is better than other songs.
2. What musical experiences do you have?
I like to play and that is about it. I play guitar, bass and drums and dabble with the keyboard. I am not really good at any of them but in a studio, you can really do take after take until you get it right (even if it is two measures at a time!). I do have a passion for guitar though. I wish I was better at it.
3. What Bible character do you relate to the most?
I really like James. He was a take charge kind of guy. He was not boastful about his lineage but he was serious about the message he carried. I liked that about him.
4. What is your favorite Bible story?
Jonah. I love that story. I often wonder what happened to him after Nineveh. It is very comical when you think about it.
5. What do you do in your spare time?
I like movies, music and hanging out with friends. I like to build and create things. I do enjoy playing the guitar and would love to do it full time one day. I also like to work on this project. It has been fun. The idea of taking something I love doing and using it to teach something I believe in is awesome.
6. What kind of equipment do you use? (for all the music geeks out there)
Electric Guitars: Fender Custom Strat with EMG's, Fender Butterscotch American Tele Elite, Gibson Les Paul Classic, Schecter C-1 Elite, Gibson Flying V and too many others....
Acoustic Guitars: Taylor 314CE, Taylor K24CE, Gibson SJ-200, Guild 12-String
Effects: This changes all the time, but the constant pedals you will find will be the B.K. Butler Tube Driver, Buddy Guy Signature Dunlop Wah, Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive, TC Dark Matter and various delays, reverbs, buffers, compressors AND noise gates.
Amps: 2 Orange AD-30R amps in stereo, 1974 Peavey Mace II 1/2 Stack (THE BEAST!), Orange Tiny Terror Head with a 4x12 cab that I built with 4 greenbacks installed.
Keyboards: Alesis Prestige 88-Key Piano, M-Audio Axiom 25
Hardware: Apple with PreSonus interfaces
Software: Logic Pro X
Mic: Blue, Shure, AKG,
Drums: All programmed!
Bass: Schecter Franken-bass
Monitors: M-Audio BX8a
1. How did you get involved with the Petrafried project?
I have been a big fan of ApologetiX since their early years.
For one of ApologetiX's concerts in Corpus Christi, Arron and his youth band was going to be the opening act. I asked him if his band was going to do parodies as well. He joking replied that I should write some for him. I had never thought of it until then.
2. What musical experiences do you have?
None, except singing in church. Before Petrafried, I was always making visual parodies though. I was even a cartoonist for ACU's Optimist (our college newspaper).
3. Tell us about your family.
God blessed me by raising me in a great family. I grew up as a preacher's kid in northern Texas. My brothers and I were privilege to have a stay at home mom, though we didn't know how lucky we were at the time. From there, I went on to Abilene Christian University where I met my wife in the art department.
Becky and I have been married over 30 years. We have three kids all were homeschooled. Our two oldest both have graphic design degrees from Harding University and our youngest is going to Harding now.
4. What Bible character do you relate to the most?
Probably Paul. He seemed to feel he was a better writer than speaker (1 Cor 2:1-5; 2 Cor 11:6). That is to our benefit since we have so much of his writings. He also shared his struggles in his letters. I think everyone can relate to that.
5. What is your favorite Bible story?
I enjoy reading about Elisha. He was such a weird character and God performed some strange miracles through him. He is a fun read (check out 1 Kings 2-13).
6. What do you do in your spare time?
Other than this project? Hmm? That would probably be creating online Bible studies. I just finished creating a course that relates Art History to the Bible. I am also working on a book, "Shadows of Good Things to Come."
I hope these songs will bring you closer to God and a desire to study His Word more.
